First Annual Blanco Western Showcase

On November 2, 3, and 4, 2012, Carriage Hills Ranch and the Buggy Barn Museum co-hosted the first annual Blanco Western Showcase featuring the 11th annual International Knife and Tomahawk Throwing Championship.  Competitors came from France, Great Britain, Scotland, Canada, the Philippines, Australia, and the all over the United States for the three day competition.

Other events included a chuck wagon cook off, musical entertainment by K.R. Wood and Jean Prescott, Dan Mink (The Rhinestone Roper), Jack Dagger (the King of Fling), and Mike and Rosa Gross ( One Sharp Marriage).  An educational exhibit was provided by the U.S. Parks and Wildlife Service that emphasized the skills needed to survive in frontier America.

Numerous vendors offered a wide variety of items for sale including leather goods, wood carvings, health foods and health products, knives, Christmas decorations, personalized baby/toddler clothing, a gourmet coffee bar, and of course delicious food from several vendors just to name a few.

A horse drawn trolley carried visitors back and forth between the Buggy Barn Museum and Carriage Hills Ranch.  Kids could have their pictures taken on a Texas longhorn, ride the mechanical buffalo, and jump for joy in the bouncy enclosure.  Buffalo Bill Leighton entertained the visitors with his authentic western getup and several tall tales of the old west.

A special thanks to Dennis Moore (owner of the Buggy Barn Museum) and Mike “Alamo” Bainton for organizing the event.  Mike is a past world knife and tomahawk throwing champion and holds several world records.

We look forward to next year’s event and hope to see you there.  Picture of the event are on our Facebook page, Carriage Hills Ranch. Please check them out.
